An editorial in the Daily Star invites the powers-that-be in Beirut and Damascus to wake up and smell the coffee:
If the Lebanese and Syrians do not upgrade their approach to 1559, then it appears inevitable that both countries will find themselves corralled into a tight corner by an international coalition. This must be avoided, and both governments must realize that avoiding conflict over 1559 is not - contrary to current perception - capitulation. Avoiding a conflict that cannot be won can and should be the primary responsibility of the leaders in both Beirut and Damascus.
or in words of fewer syllables: Syrians Out!
Thousands of Lebanese students and activists on Friday demonstrated against Syria's hegemony in Lebanon. Reports said about 3,000 students from several universities gathered in Beirut downtown to shout "Syrians out!"
